Well we don't really have a company network. It's mostly work from home, though we meet in the office 2 days a week.

If your boss is looking for copies of all email for some kind of legal compliance,
you're going to have to invest in a proper infrastructure.

You don't just need copies of email, you need to be able to prove you have copies of everything,
and that there's no way to modify (or delete) the copies without detection.
You'll also need to log the times received and sent accurately.

It becomes important that all work activity is on work equipment and uses
work approved and monitored mechanisms.

If your boss just wants copies so he can monitor activity,
some kind of auto-forwarding might work.

Thanks, that makes sense. Definitely not for monitoring, just to have a backup.
It sounds like the only way is to have our own server to run the email system off of.

Which isn't terribly difficult to do,
if you have an old (or new) PC and a copy of Ubuntu Server,
though it'd likely take a day or two of online research to get it all up and going.

And I could still use bluehost as my provider? Or would this PC be my mail server? In which case, I'm assuming I can link this mail server to existing bluehost @companyname.com email addresses?

I can link this mail server to existing bluehost @companyname.com email addresses?

It's just a MX record in the DNS. You can point that to any mailserver that is set up to use your domain name.

I think for a small office hosted exchange is a good way to go. Find someone that can offer that along with virus / spam filtering and you're good to go. Let the exchange host handle the data retention.

dudes, i have a linksys wireless G router. I do not use the wireless part of it. I have the wifi turned off and I have an ethernet running to a mac airport for my wireless. I use the other 3 wired ports on it to feed my DVR, xbox360 and a shitty old laptop that doesnt move from my enterntainment center.

my problem is that the router only works for like 45 min -2 hrs or so at a time. Then as soon as I reset it (unplug, plug back in) it'll work again.

Is there an internal setting that I can change in order to fix this problem?

You can try and update the firmware on the router, that should help.
Otherwise your router may have just gone bad.

I'll look at that again dave, the router used to be fine, and then stopped working all together about a year ago. I update the firmware at that time and it seemed to fix it but I've noticed this issue popping up over the past month or so. I'll see if theres anything newer out there or what it'll cost to just pick up a new wired 4 porter. shouldn't be too much.

The consensus here and in my own personal experience is that somehow, routers seem to just get old and die in exactly the way you're describing. I've had firmware updates fix it, even if you just reinstall the same firmware it could help.

If not, yeah, replace it.

Ok so... my GTX465 barely fits in my case, and my IDE connector for my dvd drive is blocking it, so no DVD drive. My shitty old Antec 500W can't power it since the 12V rail is split.

I have that new 650W 54A Corsair PSU coming tomorrrow (hopefully).

Now I guess I need a new motherboard to accomodate the card, which means I need DDR3 ram since I'm running a Phenom II on an AM2+ board with DDR2.

Total cost for this little issue is nearing $500. Pretty decent overhaul though. I'm wondering if I should just get a new case while I'm at it and build another machine with the guts.

a new case will help you hold the card a lot better than a new motherboard will

thats why i got my case
and i'm 99.9% sure that you can put DDR2 ram in a DDR3 capable motherboard

I reseated the graphics card and it worked. Very curious. All of the fans are working, so who knows.

Repeat from a week ago?

Computer was idle/hibernation mode all day, came back and tried to come out of that mode and screen was black again.

1) unplugged/powered down and let it cool down
2) compressed air through entire case, cut down on a ton of dust
3) checked every connection to and from the mother board and the power supply
4) checked every fan to make sure it was working
5) re-seated the card
6) put card in the second PCI-Express slot

No dice. solid black screen every time. Fans are working, all of the other lights come on (mouse/keyboard/front of computer, etc) but no signal is getting to the monitor.

I guess it could be the DVI cable itself but that seems really random.

Anything I'm missing here? I've pretty much exhausted my expertise.

I've been having the same issue with some other weird symptoms, but that's how my issue started too. It could be your power supply failing/not providing enough juice.

Mine would do exactly the same thing as yours, except it would occasionally make a screeching noise, but it was impossible to tell if it was coming from the power supply or the GPU because the case has some weird acoustics.

Ended up ordering a new GPU and PSU that I plan on installing tonight.

Sorry, I'm not much help.

How much experience do you have taking apart things in general? Keeping plastic clips intact and remembering where everything goes when you put it back together are the real tricks. (A digital camera documenting the disassembly will help immensely)

I suspect what you'd have to do to is take the motherboard out and try and re-flow the solder for the power jack. The problem is that boards these days are like 16 layers thick, so you could just break it entirely, but hey, it's already broken so why not go for it yes?

I'm fairly experienced with taking things apart and putting them back together. and with a laptop that idea of using a digital camera is a good one. just not looking forward to it because once that first screw comes out there is no turning back.
not to mention i havn't had to solder anything in like 10 years ...

maybe if its not too bad i can just cram some mighty putty on it and keep it from moving around?? lol probably not.

Get on Google to see if you can find a tech manual. I know Dell has manuals showing how to tear down all of their machines, so maybe Toshiba does too. Hopefully the you can just re-solder the connections like someone else said.

My Compaq is easy as shit to take apart.
Just make sure you have a really good set of micro screwdrivers.
It's no fun stripping stuff.

I have a regular-sized screwdriver with a micro tip
which I find much easier to use than those super tiny eyeglass ones
(you can't get those to start turning on some screws).

dnico78,
usually the DC-input board is a separate part
so I'd think you could source one relatively cheaply
and then just replace it instead of trying to muck around with re-soldering.
