Help Bassett with a program he is writing.

Bassett said:

Is there a thread where I could get some help with a program I am writing?

source

So there's this guy, right? And he's writing a program, ok? and he's got these questions... ones he doesn't know the answers to. So, he asks how to ask how to fix his code. Yeah. So I says to him, what he should do is this: he should go to this thread right here and then he can ask those questions, and get the help he's looking for. Yeah.

Car Help Mk. The Next

Let's see if I can't get some hot car help action.

I'm driving a 1990 Honda CRX, 120k miles, and lately I've been having an odd intermittent problem. Sometimes when I start the car, as I buckle up and put it into first, it will suddenly cough a bit, splutter and then die. When I try starting it again, it will splutter some, and then die again. If I wait for a couple minutes, then try, it will start up just fine and have no problems running.

It always catches me off guard, because when I first start it up it runs fine for 5-10 seconds before it starts spluttering. Also, every time it's happened (it's only happened three times so far, in about the past month) it was while I was running errands and driving relatively short distances while stopping often.

Is this something I should be concerned about? Is it something I could fix myself? Am I going to find myself stranded in the middle of nowhere? All help is appreciated.

The Manual Transmission Thread (no Slushboxes Allowed)

This is the thread about the art of driving a car with a manual transmission.

I've been driving a stick shift for about 2 years now. I bought a mazda RX-8 and it would have been criminal to get a car like that in an automatic. I taught myself stick on it in about a weeks time, culminating with getting stuck in bumper to bumper traffic up a steep San Francisco hill (that was unplanned but cured my fear of hill starts).

I'm a safer driver, and I don't tailgate as much, and I have more fun driving then I ever did in an automatic.

Who else here drives a stick shift?

Attention, programmers! I've made this for a specific request, maybe others have their own requests/wishes. More than likely it will just age and lock. Whatever.

Many people have often wished that they could ignore a person and/or people. It was just suggested that perhaps something browser-side could be designed, maybe GreaseMonkey or the like, where the unwanted user's post was simply converted to random words, gibberish, or perhaps a pretty poem

Anyone want to take a crack at it?

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S GOOD!

Spince needs your help (and votes)

Hello Fazers,

As some of you know, I served in the Peace Corps from 2005-2008 as a University English Teacher. Through the program, 3rd world countries invite US Citizens to come work in the program in all sorts of developmental areas. I firmly believe that the program is one of the few things about American foreign policy that is uncontroversial these days.

In 2011, the Peace Corps will be celebrating it's 50th anniversary. To commemorate the founding, I have been serving as the editor of one volume of a four volume set. In the book we are taking stories from Peace Corps volunteers and their stories of service in various countries since the founding. Our intention is to publish this book and to publicize the Peace Corps and the work that they do further.

We're dealing with issues of funding, and we'd like to get a Pepsi Grant as an educational project. You can vote here:

http://www.refresheverything.com/peacecorpsat50

Just follow the prompts on the site and vote, and I will be truly grateful. Thank you. I'd be happy to answer any follow up questions in this thread.

TL;DR: Spince is editing an educational book about the Peace Corps and would like your vote.

Telescope?

Hey peoples

This year we bought a condo with a beautiful view of Lake Michigan. Since moving in, I have yearned for something to improve what we can see, daytime and night. I have been thinking a refractive telescope but am not sure of anything as I haven't even handled a telescope or looked through one in 20 years.

I thought fazed might be a good place too look for other enthusiasts or get advice, if not, my bad, I could find another forum more geared towards it, np. If anyone out there has advice I am all ears tho...

This is the current situation, I bought a set of Bushnell Binoculars (10x50) over the weekend and have been thrilled too see the moon a lot closer, not too mention, to be able too see the beaches and the parks I walk my dog through. The sailboats really are something to behold as well. I am definately hooked.

I am not able to purchase whatever I end up with at this time, but in the winter we will have lots of extra income and I will be picking up at least 2 or 3 telescopes. One of which will be solar (we get a tremendous sunrise everyday, it would be very cool to watch thru a lens methinks) and that will be a lower end scope, I am intending too spend money on a regular refractive or reflective scope. I am thinking $400-800 for that one alone. I was thinking there was a way too hook up a telescope to a computer to control and use your PC monitor for eyepiece, but I could be totally wrong, I haven't been able to find anything online. I would settle for a camera attachment too rtake shots of what we find, but think the computer would be be better for that kind of thing, not really sure though.

Any input on any of this would fantastic, I am completely new to the field and would be happy to share my best results here! Thanks in advance!
